Cañon is a house cleaved in two — like a slot canyon carved through the Chihuahuan Desert. A massive volume of stacked sandstone stands beside a calm volume of cream stucco, and between them a single vertical slot of glass rises taller than both, drawing light deep into the heart of the home. A pivoting walnut entry door anchors the slot, framed in dark bronze. Inside, the cleaved geometry separates the private wing from the social wing while a continuous skylight ridge above the slot pours daylight onto the floor below. Architecture as geological fissure.
